What did we talk about today?

Why don’t you tell us a little about yourself and what you’re doing in this great world?

Adri’s journey started many years back when she was just a little eight-year-old girl.  Unfortunately, she lived through a rather rough childhood with abuse and negative memories.  But even at a young age, Adri knew she had a warriors spirit and a great determination to help others.  Adri now uses this same drive to do good in the world to help women all over the world with internal and external issues which hold them back from wellbeing and their goals.

How was the experience of getting started in holistic wellness and coaching?

Adri’s experience started with chronic back pain which ailed her for years.  The whole transformation began with her developed understanding of the connection between mind, body, and emotion.  Adri’s most important discovery was the fact that to achieve real wellbeing, you need to have harmony between these three important parts of your self.  When you have disharmony in your mind, body, and emotions, it can manifest as various issues in any of these areas.

What’s the biggest mistake you see people make in terms of health and wellness?

One of the biggest mistakes Adri has seen people make is their desire for the good life and real change without the work and sacrifice needed.  You must have harmony to bring about this change, and the harmony required can take some serious work and dedication.  But it’s important to keep in mind that the potential rewards of optimum wellbeing are well worth the sacrifice, time, and thought required.  Also, many people are afraid of facing their emotions, and this is an unfortunate fact which can hold you back.

What’s your secret recipe or technique to mental health and wellbeing?

Adri recommends keeping a journal which is useful for keeping track of your thoughts and ideas.  Over time, you may start to see patterns in thought which can either harm or help you.  The next step is to start practicing mindfulness exercises such as meditation and yoga.  Another important point here is the big thing which holds people back are their self-limiting beliefs.  These steps can certainly help you to start getting over these beliefs, which everyone has.

What are some common misconceptions about meditation?

Meditation doesn’t have to have a set length.  You can just start with short bursts, and progressively add more time to your practice.  Another part I found was interesting, which I have certainly experienced, is the more you resist thoughts, the harder meditation is.  When I first started practicing meditation, I found it extremely difficult to silence my mind and stare into nothingness.  But now I have realized the trick which works for me is to relax your mind, and just let everything flow naturally.

How can we get in better tune with our emotional and natural energy?

Adri recommended me to surrender false expectations we may have for reality.  The only thing we can control is our mindset, and the resultant actions we take in life.  Find out what you really want to accomplish or focus on, and let this guide you to start taking inspired actions.

If we want to have optimum mental performance and awareness, what are some habits or techniques we can practice?

It typically takes 21 days for a new habit to develop in the human brain.  For someone who may not be in the best mental or physical state, it can be helpful to take small steps.  Small steps over time, can lead to a truly massive positive change in your life.  Adri recommends starting with journaling as a way to keep track of your thoughts and ideas.  I can say with certainty this is one of the most beneficial habits I have started to practice.

What are your key principles for your nutrition and sleep health?

Sleep health is slightly different for everyone, but what you need to realize is just how important it is.  If you need eight hours a night, and you fail to meet this, your mental performance is going to suffer as a result.  Before bed, it’s also important to avoid your phone as the light activates the brain, and it interrupts your natural circadian rhythm.  Adri recommends to eat locally grown and natural foods.  If you’re a meat eater, you should avoid processed and unnatural foods at all costs.  Grassfed and range grown are best.

If you could only leave the listeners with one piece of actionable advice, what would it be? 

Adri first wants to tell you that you have direct control over your life and actions.  Once you realize this, you can start to practice mindfulness and meditation.  Periodically throughout the day, stop to take five deep breaths.  Really focus on these breaths and let the air flow throughout your body.  Next time, you can focus on ten breaths, then fifteen, and just keep going up. This allows you to slowly slip into a new habit of mindfulness and meditation.
